WHERE IT STARTED

Recovery Collective began in 2014 as a bedroom project between two friends. Jiayden Mills and Ben Mac wanted a platform for the artists around them, producers making music that didn’t fit neatly into any existing box. No label was releasing the records they wanted to hear, so they built one.

Twelve years on, that founding logic hasn’t changed. It has just travelled further than either of them expected.

THE ETHOS

Recovery Collective was not built on the foundation of music alone, but on the promise of opportunity. From the earliest days, we recognised the potential in artists waiting for their breakout moment and gave them the platform, resources and guidance to shine.

The ethos has always been clear. Discover, nurture, promote. Make sure great music finds its audience.

That means more than uploading records. It means mentorship, fair industry practice, and genuine long-term relationships with the people on the roster. As the label name suggests, this is a collective. Many labels release a record and the story ends there. Here it is the beginning of something.

THE SOUND

There is no single genre on the catalogue and there never has been. Early releases drew heavily from the São Paulo techno sound emerging at the time. Since then the catalogue has covered progressive house, melodic techno, minimal, indie dance, psychedelic and peak-time techno, and the progressive techno rooted in Australian outdoor festival culture.

The through line is not a BPM or a subgenre. It is intent. Records that earn their place.

In 2020, Recovery Collective was named Beatport’s #3 label of the year, sitting alongside Afterlife and Diynamic, and landed the fourth highest selling release of the year.

The roster pulls from nearly every continent. That international DNA is baked into everything we put out.

ON THE ROAD

Recovery Collective has run showcases and label nights across Australia, Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. Earthcore, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Rainbow Serpent, Strawberry Fields and Babylon at home. John Doe and Toekomstmusik in Amsterdam. Loftus Hall and AVA in Berlin. Velvet Club in Porto and Fábrica Braço de Prata in Lisbon. Amsterdam Dance Event, year after year.

In 2024 we marked ten years with a World Tour spanning 50+ shows, taking the catalogue and the artists behind it back to the cities that shaped the story.

WHAT’S NEXT

The focus has stayed exactly where it has always been. Signing new talent, growing the catalogue, and putting out records that earn their place.
